Is Ketu Mainland or Island? Ketu Lagos Location Guide

Ketu is on the Lagos mainland — in Kosofe LGA, close to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Rent prices, commute times, and who Ketu suits as a place to live.

Last updated: June 2026

Ketu is on the Lagos mainland. It is in Kosofe LGA, in the northeastern part of Lagos State, positioned close to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Ojota interchange. Ketu is a well-known transit and residential area, commonly used as a reference point for direction and commuting in that part of the mainland.

Mainland vs island in Lagos: where Ketu fits

Kosofe LGA — which covers Ketu, Ojota, Mile 12, Oworonsoki, and Gbagada — is entirely on the Lagos mainland. These areas sit on the continuous landmass of Nigeria, north and northeast of the Lagos Lagoon. The divide between mainland and island is defined by the lagoon, and Ketu sits well on the mainland side of this boundary.

Ketu is often categorised as a “northern mainland” area due to its position along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway axis, which connects Lagos to Ibadan and beyond.

Where exactly is Ketu located?

Ketu is in Kosofe LGA, in the northeastern part of Lagos State. Key reference points:

  • Ketu Bus Stop — the main commercial hub and transit junction on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
  • Ojota / Oshodi-Apapa Expressway interchange — a few minutes from Ketu; a major traffic nexus for northern mainland Lagos
  • Mile 12 Market — one of Lagos's largest food markets, a few kilometres from Ketu in the same LGA
  • Third Mainland Bridge approach (Ojota end) — Ketu provides relatively accessible entry to the Third Mainland Bridge for Island commuters
  • BRT / Lagos Bus Route — BRT services run through Ketu toward Oshodi, connecting to central mainland and Island corridors

Rent prices in Ketu

Ketu is a mid-range mainland area in terms of pricing — more affordable than Gbagada or Yaba, but with decent transport connectivity:

  • Self-contained / studio: ₦200,000–₦400,000 per annum
  • 1-bedroom flat: ₦350,000–₦650,000 per annum
  • 2-bedroom flat: ₦550,000–₦1,000,000 per annum
  • 3-bedroom flat: ₦750,000–₦1,500,000 per annum

As with all Lagos rentals, expect to pay 1–2 years in advance plus agency fee (typically 10%) and a caution deposit.

Commute from Ketu

  • Ketu to Ikeja: 20–45 minutes via the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
  • Ketu to Lagos Island / Victoria Island: 45–90 minutes via Third Mainland Bridge (Ojota approach)
  • Ketu to Yaba: 30–50 minutes via Oworonsoki or Third Mainland Bridge
  • Ketu to Mile 12: 10–20 minutes
  • Ketu to Oshodi (BRT): 30–45 minutes

Ketu's position near the expressway means the northbound commute toward Ibadan or Berger is fast, while the southbound island commute via Third Mainland Bridge is manageable relative to more distant mainland areas.

Who Ketu suits

  • Workers with jobs in Ikeja, the northern mainland, or expressway-adjacent corridors
  • Households who commute to Lagos Island or Yaba and want a mid-priced mainland base with decent bridge access
  • Traders and market workers linked to Mile 12 or the Ojota commercial corridor
  • Students and young professionals who need expressway and BRT connectivity without paying Yaba or Gbagada prices
