Viewing a Property in Nigeria by Video Call: What to Ask the Agent to Show

A live video viewing can narrow a property search from abroad. Ask the agent to confirm the unit, follow a continuous route and show areas a polished tour may skip.

A live video call can help a remote renter or buyer decide whether a property deserves an in-person visit. Its value lies in asking the agent to show the actual route and the details missing from a polished tour, while keeping the limits of video evidence clear.

Ask for a live walkthrough

A prerecorded tour can help you decide whether a property is worth a closer look. A live call lets you ask the agent to turn, pause, open a door or revisit a room. Agree on the address and unit before the call and ask whether the agent is physically at that property. If the connection drops or the agent can only share a recording, note what remains unseen.

Confirm the building and the unit

Begin outside where practical: show the entrance, building and route to the unit. Then ask the agent to show the unit door before entering. For a block with several similar flats, this continuous transition matters. It does not independently verify ownership or documents, but it reduces confusion about which unit the interior belongs to.

Follow one route through the home

Have the agent walk through the entrance, living space, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and any balcony in a continuous order. Ask for slow pans from room corners and a view back toward the door so room size and connections are easier to understand. Request a view from the windows and of the immediate common areas. Still images and wide-angle lenses can make dimensions misleading, so ask for room measurements if fit is critical.

Ask about gaps as they appear

If a room is dark, ask for lights on and a closer view. If a bathroom is skipped, ask to return. Ask the agent to run a tap or show a fitting only when safe and practical; a brief demonstration does not establish long-term reliability. Ask who occupies neighboring units, how access works and whether there are restrictions on another visit. Treat answers as statements to verify, not proven conditions.

Know what the call cannot settle

A video call cannot reliably reveal every smell, noise, damp patch, access issue or neighborhood condition. It also cannot replace document checks. Arrange an independent physical visit by you or someone you trust before a serious commitment, and have a qualified professional inspect specialist concerns. The property inspection checklist covers the on-site checks; the diaspora buying guide covers the wider remote-purchase process.

Make the follow-up precise

After the call, send a short list of what was shown and what still needs checking: unit identity, any missed room, measurements, access and follow-up visit. This makes the next conversation specific and reduces the risk that a polished tour stands in for evidence.

Next step

Use Cabans property listings to identify a home to view, then ask the listing contact for a live walkthrough where available.

Take the next step

Keep your research practical: search for property in Lagos, compare live options for properties in Lagos, or list your property on Cabans to reach active buyers and renters.
