Compare the total, not the night price
Two shortlets with the same night price can cost very different amounts for your stay. Once you choose dates, the green "Price Breakdown" card shows every line:
- Nights: the night price for each night. It can change from one date to the next.
- Discount: only if the host offers one, and only on the nights.
- Cleaning fee: added once to the whole stay, if the host charges one.
- Caution deposit (refundable): you get it back after you leave, unless there is damage our team agrees the host may keep money for.
- Total: the price of the stay.
You pay securely through Paystack, always in naira. Paystack charges a fee for handling the payment. You pay it on top of the stay, and you see it before you pay.
Seven ways to pay less for a shortlet in Lagos
- 1
Stay a little longer
Some hosts give a longer-stay discount, shown like "7+ nights, 10% off". The biggest discount you reach counts for every night of your stay. If you were going to stay 6 nights, check what 7 would cost.
- 2
Look for free nights
Some hosts offer free nights instead, shown like "Stay 5 nights, get 1 free". The cheapest night of your stay is the free one. You get the free nights or the discount, whichever saves you more, never both.
- 3
Move your dates by a day or two
Hosts can set a higher price for busy days, such as holidays. Each free day on the calendar shows its own night price. Try starting a day earlier or later and watch the total change.
- 4
Compare areas, not just homes
Prices differ a lot from one part of Lagos to another. Compare the same size of home on the Mainland (Yaba, Surulere, Ikeja, Gbagada) and on the Island (Lekki, Ajah, Victoria Island) before you choose.
- 5
Pick the size you need
A studio or 1-bedroom usually costs less than a bigger home in the same building. But the price does not change with the number of guests, so a group can share one bigger home and split the cost.
- 6
Check the cleaning fee
The cleaning fee is added once to the whole stay. For one night, a big cleaning fee can matter more than the night price. For a long stay it matters less.
- 7
Book early
Booking early gives you more homes to choose from. It can also give you a longer time to cancel for free, so you are not stuck if your plans change.

A cheap shortlet should not be a risky one
- Pay only on the Cabans booking page. Your payment goes through Paystack.
- Never send money by transfer to someone who says the home is cheaper if you pay them directly.
- Pressing "Reserve" holds the dates for 30 minutes and charges nothing.
- If the host says no, or does not answer in time, you get back everything you paid for the stay. Paystack’s payment fee is not refunded.
- You can cancel for free until the deadline shown before you pay.

Where to look for a cheaper shortlet
Frequently asked questions
How can I find a cheap shortlet in Lagos?
Compare the total for your dates, not just the night price. Look for longer-stay discounts and free nights, try dates a day earlier or later, and compare a few areas. Smaller homes often cost less than bigger ones in the same building.
Is the night price the full price?
Not always. Some hosts add a cleaning fee once per stay, and some ask for a caution deposit, which you get back after you leave. Paystack also charges a fee for handling your payment, which you pay on top. You see every line before you pay.
Can I get a discount for staying longer?
Yes, if the host offers one. You see it above the calendar or in the price breakdown, for example "7+ nights, 10% off" or "Stay 5 nights, get 1 free". The discount never applies to the cleaning fee or the caution deposit.
Are cheap shortlets safe to book?
A low price is fine when you pay on the Cabans booking page. Your money goes through Paystack, the host must confirm or you get a full refund, and you can cancel for free until the deadline. Never pay a stranger by transfer because they promise a lower price.
Does the price go up with more guests?
No. Two people or six pay the same for the same dates. Each home has a guest limit, though, and the booking box will not let you choose more guests than it allows.
Can I cancel if I find something cheaper?
Yes, until the free-cancellation deadline the booking box shows. You then get a 100% refund of the booking. Paystack’s payment fee is not refunded. It reaches you within 14 days at most, and usually in about 5 days.
Host with a good-value shortlet?
Guests looking for value book online and pay before you accept. Add a longer-stay discount or free nights to fill your quieter weeks.
