How shortlet booking works, in 5 steps
This is the same for every shortlet you can book on Cabans, in Lagos, Abuja or anywhere else.

Choose your dates
Open a shortlet and pick your check-in day, then your check-out day, on its calendar. Each free day shows its night price. The check-out day is the morning you leave, so you do not pay for that night.

Press "Reserve"
Cabans holds your dates for 30 minutes while you pay. Nothing is charged yet. You need to be signed in. If you are not, you sign in and come straight back with your dates filled in.

Pay securely through Paystack
At checkout you pay online through Paystack, always in naira. Paystack charges a fee for handling the payment. You pay it on top of the stay, and you see it before you pay. You can also choose to pay later: your dates are then kept for 2 hours while you pay from My Stays.

Get confirmed
With "Instant booking" your stay is confirmed as soon as you pay. With "Host confirms" the host has a set time to accept: 24 hours as standard. If they say no, or do not answer in time, you get a full refund.

Open your stay page
In My Stays you find the address, the host's directions and the house rules. When you get there, press "I have arrived". Your door code and Wi-Fi password appear once the host completes your check-in.
What you pay, line by line
Once you choose dates, a green "Price Breakdown" card shows every line before you pay. A stay is always charged in naira.

| Discount | Only if the host offers one: a longer-stay discount such as "7+ nights, 10% off", or free nights such as "Stay 5 nights, get 1 free". You get whichever saves you more, never both. |
| Cleaning fee | A fixed amount added once to the whole stay, not per night. Not every host charges one. Discounts never apply to it. |
| Caution deposit (refundable) | A fixed naira amount the host sets, paid once with the booking. You get it back after you leave, unless the Cabans team agrees the host may keep some of it for damage. |

The payment fee. You pay securely online through Paystack. Paystack charges a fee for handling the payment, and you pay it on top of the stay. You see it before you pay, and it is not refunded. Every line is explained in shortlet fees explained.
The number of guests does not change the price: two people or six pay the same. The host does set a limit, and the booking box stops you going over it ("This property takes up to 4 guests."). A stay is also paid for on its own, so check out your stay first if your basket holds anything else.
Free cancellation until the host's cut-off
Every shortlet you can book on Cabans has a free-cancellation time. The host picks it: 24 hours, or 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 14 or 30 days before check-in. If the host picked nothing, it is 48 hours (2 days).
- Cancel before that time for a 100% refund of your booking: the nights, the cleaning fee and the caution deposit. Paystack’s payment fee is not refunded.
- Once you choose dates, the booking box shows the exact deadline, for example "Free cancellation until Tue 6 Oct 2026, 14:00 WAT".
- If you book after the free-cancellation time has already passed, the stay cannot be cancelled. The booking box says so before you pay.
- A refund reaches you within 14 days at most, and usually in about 5 days.

Your stay is confirmed as soon as you pay. The address, check-in steps and house rules are on your stay page straight away.
Host confirms
You pay, and your request goes to the host. The host has a set time to accept: 24 hours as standard, or anything from 2 hours to 7 days if they chose it. No answer in time counts as a no, and you get a full refund.

Your address, door code and Wi-Fi: when you see them
- The address shows on your stay page once the booking is confirmed, with the host's directions and house rules.
- "I have arrived" opens from the day before check-in. Press it when you get there, so the host knows to hand over the keys.
- The door code and Wi-Fi password appear after the host completes your check-in. Tap to show them. They hide again after a minute.
- Codes are never sent by email. You see them on your stay page, in My Stays.

Can I book a shortlet online on Cabans?
Yes, on any shortlet whose page shows a booking calendar and a "Reserve" button. You pick your dates, reserve, and pay online through Paystack in naira. Shortlets without a calendar are still listed. On those, press "Contact Agent" to ask the host about dates.
Do I need an account to book a shortlet?
You can look at dates and prices without one. You must be signed in to press "Reserve". If you are signed out, a sign-in window opens. Then it brings you back to the same shortlet with your dates and guests filled in.
How long does Cabans hold my dates?
For 30 minutes after you press "Reserve". Nothing is charged while they are held. If you do not pay in time, the dates go back on sale. You can have up to 3 stays on hold at once.
How do I pay for a shortlet on Cabans?
Online, through Paystack, and always in naira. Paystack charges a fee for handling the payment. You pay that fee on top of the stay, and you see it before you pay. For a shortlet with a booking box, pay only on Cabans. Never send money to anyone by transfer to book it.
What happens if the host says no?
You get back everything you paid for the stay: the nights, the cleaning fee and the caution deposit. Paystack’s payment fee is not refunded. The same is true if the host does not answer in time. The refund reaches you within 14 days at most, and usually in about 5 days.
When do I get the address and the door code?
The address appears on your stay page once the booking is confirmed. The door code and Wi-Fi password appear after the host completes your check-in. They are never sent by email.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
Yes. Before you arrive, open the stay in My Stays and press "Change dates or guests". Small changes happen at once; bigger ones need the host to say yes. You can cancel for free until the deadline shown on your stay page.
