How the free-cancellation deadline is worked out
Each host picks a cut-off: 24 hours, or 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 14 or 30 days before check-in. If the host picks nothing, it is 2 days (48 hours). The deadline is your check-in day, at the check-in time, minus that cut-off. Times are West Africa Time (WAT).
Example: you check in on Thu 8 Oct 2026 at 14:00 (2 in the afternoon).

The 30-day rule, in plain words
A 30-day cut-off only counts in full if you book more than 30 days before check-in. If you book closer than that, the deadline is 15 days before check-in at most. And if even that has passed, you cannot cancel. That is why it pays to book early: see when to book a shortlet.
Example: a home with a 30-day cut-off, and check-in on Sat 19 Dec 2026 at 14:00.

What you get back, and when
- How much: a 100% refund of the booking. Paystack’s payment fee is not refunded. That is the nights, the cleaning fee and the caution deposit.
- Where to: the card or account you paid with.
- How long: within 14 days at most, and usually in about 5 days.
- How you know: your stay says "Cancelled · refund on its way", then "Refunded". You also get an email: "A refund of" the amount "is on its way".
How to cancel a shortlet booking

Open My Stays
Go to My Account, then "My Stays", and open the stay you want to cancel.

Press "Cancel booking"
A box opens called "Cancel this booking?". It shows what you paid, your refund and the free-cancellation deadline.

Add a reason if you like
Under "Reason (optional)" you can tell your host why. You do not have to.

Press "Cancel booking" again
The booking is cancelled straight away. Nobody has to approve it. You see "Your refund of" the amount "is on its way".

When you cannot cancel
- You booked inside the cut-off. The booking box says "No free cancellation" before you pay. Once booked, the stay cannot be cancelled.
- The deadline has passed. The stay page says "The free cancellation period ended on" that date. Message your host if your plans change.
- You leave early. The nights you do not use are not refunded, unless the host agrees to refund them.
If the host says no, or cancels
You always get a full refund. That is true if the host declines your request, if they do not answer in time, or if they cancel before you arrive. Do all shortlets on Cabans have free cancellation?
Every shortlet you can book online on Cabans lets you cancel for free up to a deadline. The host chooses how long before check-in that is. Hosts cannot choose "no cancellation".

How long does a shortlet refund take?

Can I cancel after the deadline?
No. After the deadline your stay page says "The free cancellation period ended on" that date, and the booking can no longer be cancelled. If your plans change, message your host.
What if the host cancels or says no?
You get a full refund. The same happens if the host does not answer your request in time.
Do I get money back if I leave early?
No, not for the nights you do not use, unless the host agrees to refund them. Free cancellation is for cancelling before you arrive.
Can I change my dates instead of cancelling?
Yes, before you arrive. Open the stay in My Stays and press "Change dates or guests". A shorter stay inside your dates can apply straight away if you are still before the deadline. Other changes need the host to say yes.
