Abule Egba is a busy residential and trading district on the north-western Lagos mainland. It sits on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, north of Iyana Ipaja, at the point where Alimosho and Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Areas meet, and most of it is administered by Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area. It is one of the most affordable places to rent in Lagos State: indicatively, a 2-bedroom flat costs about ₦180,000–₦500,000 a year. It suits traders and people who work along the expressway, in Agege or in Ikeja, far more than anyone who commutes to the Island.
Where is Abule Egba, and which LGA is it in?
Abule Egba is a boundary area. The Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway runs through it, with Alimosho LGA on one side and Ifako-Ijaiye LGA on the other, and Agege LGA close by to the east. Most of what people call Abule Egba is served by Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, which was created out of Alimosho. In practice, the side of the expressway a street is on decides which council serves it, so ask the landlord which council collects the local rates. It is in Lagos State; the Ogun State boundary is further north, where Sango Ota begins.

What is Abule Egba like?
Abule Egba is built around the expressway. The flyover carries through traffic over the junction, and below it are the bus stops, the market, banks, filling stations and the rows of shops that make the area one of the main trading points on this side of Lagos. People from the surrounding communities and from across the Ogun State boundary shop and change buses here.
The homes are on the streets behind the expressway: older compound buildings with shared facilities close to the market, and bungalows, small blocks of flats and owner-built houses further in, with a few small gated estates. The inner areas are much quieter than the junction suggests.
- Power: public supply is poor, so a generator or inverter is part of the household budget.
- Water: boreholes and wells. Check that the pump works and who pays to run it.
- Roads: the main roads are tarred, while inner streets range from tarred to rough and untarred.
- Flooding: lower streets can flood in the rainy season.
- Fuel pipeline: a petroleum products pipeline runs through this part of Lagos. Do not rent or buy on or beside the pipeline right of way, and ask about it directly before you pay.

Getting around from Abule Egba
The Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway is the way in and out. Southbound it leads to Iyana Ipaja, Dopemu, Ikeja Along and Oshodi; northbound to Ijaiye, Meiran, Alagbado and Sango Ota in Ogun State. The Bus Rapid Transit corridor between Oshodi and Abule Egba runs along it, alongside the usual minibuses, and tricycles and motorcycles serve the inner streets. Roads on the eastern side lead to Agege, where the Lagos Red Line rail service has a station with trains towards Ikeja, Oshodi, Yaba and Oyingbo.
The expressway is heavily used and slow at peak hours, particularly towards Iyana Ipaja and Ikeja in the morning. A daily trip to Lagos Island from here is long, so test it at your real travel time before signing a tenancy.
