Ikorodu town

Ikorodu town is the headquarters of the local government and its commercial centre, built around the roundabout, the main garage and the markets. Ikorodu Road, which residents call Lagos Road, arrives here from Mile 12; Sagamu Road leaves northwards, and the road to Imota and Itoikin leaves eastwards. Housing ranges from old family compounds in the centre to newer blocks of flats on the streets behind the main roads. The Ikorodu Road corridor: Majidun, Ogolonto, Agric and Owutu

These are the communities you pass on Ikorodu Road before you reach the town, and they are the part of Ikorodu best placed for a daily trip to the rest of Lagos, because the BRT corridor from Ikorodu to Mile 12 runs through them.

Majidun is at the Mile 12 end of the Ikorodu stretch, close to the water. Parts of it are low-lying, so ask about flooding and view after heavy rain. Ogolonto follows, a residential area on both sides of the road with a growing number of new blocks of flats.

Agric is one of the busiest bus stops on the corridor and a popular residential choice for commuters, with flats and bungalows on the streets behind the road. Owutu is reached from the Agric side and is the seat of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area. It is a fast-growing residential area of self-built houses and small estates, where the state of the inner roads varies from street to street.

The lagoon side: Ebute, Ipakodo, Igbogbo and Baiyeku

Ebute and Ipakodo lie south of the town on the lagoon. The main Ikorodu ferry terminal is here, with boats across the lagoon towards the Island side, which is the reason some Island workers choose this side of Ikorodu. Services change, so check the current timetable and the last return boat before you depend on it.

Igbogbo is a town south-east of Ikorodu town, reached by Igbogbo Road, and the headquarters of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area. It is a quiet, low-cost residential community of bungalows, family houses and new blocks of flats. A 2-bedroom flat in Igbogbo is indicatively ₦200,000–₦380,000 a year. Baiyeku, which many listings spell Bayeku, is the lagoon-side community at the end of Igbogbo Road. The eastern towns: Ijede and Imota

Ijede is a lagoon-side town further east, with its own Local Council Development Area. Egbin power station is on this side of Ikorodu, and power-sector staff are part of the local rental demand. It is quiet, inexpensive and a long way from the main road, so it suits people who work locally.

Imota is a town east of Ikorodu town on the road to Itoikin, also with its own Local Council Development Area. It is known for industrial and agro-processing activity, including the state rice mill, and much of what is sold here is land. It suits local workers and long-term land buyers more than city commuters.

The northern side: Odogunyan

Odogunyan is on Sagamu Road, north of the town, and is the seat of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area. The Ikorodu industrial estate is here, so factory staff and managers make up much of the demand for housing. Beyond it the road continues towards Ogun State, and land adverts on this side need a careful check of which state the plot is actually in.
