Payments and records
How to record a cash or transfer payment
The short answer
Press "Record payment" on the charge after you receive the money. You can record part payments. Use "Reverse payment" to correct an offline record.
Step by step
Step 1: Open the tenancy and go to "Charges and payments".
Find the charge you received money for. Check "Paid towards this charge" and "Balance" before adding a record.
Step 2: Press "Record payment" on that charge.
Enter only money you have already received. You may record part of the balance or the whole balance.
Step 3: Choose "Cash" or "Bank transfer" under "Payment method".
Enter the amount received. It cannot be more than the charge balance. Fill in "Reference (optional)" and "Paid on (optional)" if needed.
Step 4: Check the details and press "Record payment".
The record appears in "Payment ledger". Use "View receipt" on that payment to open its receipt.
Step 5: Press "Reverse payment" if an offline record needs correcting.
Find it in "Payment ledger". Enter the "Reason", then press "Reverse payment" in the dialog.
Step 6: Check that the record is marked "Reversed".
The payment stays in the ledger with its reversal reason. Reversal is available only for an offline payment you recorded.

If the tenant pays part of a charge
A part payment leaves a balance on the charge. Arrange that remaining balance with your tenant.
Online payments cover a whole charge. The tenant cannot pay the balance online after a part payment is recorded.
Questions people ask
Does recording a bank transfer move money?
No. This records money you have already received. It does not collect a new payment from your tenant.
