Staycation in Lagos

A staycation is a short break without a long trip. In Lagos, a shortlet for a night or two gives you your own space, your own kitchen and a change of scene. Here is how to plan one and book it online.

Plan a two-night staycation

Two nights gives you a whole free day in the middle. Here is how a Friday-to-Sunday stay works with the usual times. Check the listing, because some hosts set other times.

WhenWhat happens
Friday, from 14:00Check in. When you get there, press "I have arrived" on your stay page. The host hands over the keys and checks you in, and your door code and Wi-Fi appear.
Friday eveningSettle in. If the host sells extras such as drinks or breakfast, order them from your stay page and they are brought to you.
SaturdayYour full day. Swim, cook, sleep in, or go out and come back. Need fresh towels? Ask with "Room service".
Sunday, by 11:00Check out. Follow the host's check-out list, then press "I am leaving". Sunday is not a night you pay for.

Having too good a time to leave? Once you are checked in, you can ask to add a night. The host must agree and the date must be free. If you leave early instead, the nights you do not use are not refunded unless the host agrees.

Pool, view or quiet: pick the right shortlet

A pool

The classic staycation. Ask whether the pool is private or shared before you book.

What a staycation costs

Every host sets their own price, so we do not print figures here. Once you choose your dates, the booking box shows every line before you pay:

  • The nights. Hosts can charge more on busy days, such as holidays. The calendar shows each night's price.
  • A cleaning fee, if the host charges one. It is added once, so it counts for more on a short stay.
  • A caution deposit, if the host asks for one. You get it back after you leave, unless there is damage.
  • The payment fee. You pay securely through Paystack, in naira. Paystack's fee for handling the payment is added on top, and you see it before you pay.

Book online, and cancel free before the cut-off

  1. Pick your check-in and check-out days on the home's calendar.
  2. Press "Reserve". Your dates are held for 30 minutes, and nothing is charged yet.
  3. Pay online through Paystack.
  4. Your stay is confirmed at once, or once the host accepts. If the host says no, you get a full refund.

Plans change. Every home you can book on Cabans lets you cancel for free until a deadline, and the booking box shows it before you pay. The full steps are in how to book a shortlet online.

Frequently asked questions

What is a staycation?

A short break close to home, without a long trip. In Lagos, a shortlet for a night or two gives you a change of scene and your own space for the weekend.

Where can I go for a staycation in Lagos?

Anywhere that feels different from home. Lekki, Victoria Island and Ikoyi suit people who want the Island. Ikeja and the Mainland suit people who want to stay close to home and skip the bridges. Open the area pages and compare.

Can I book a shortlet for just one night?

Yes, unless the host has set a longer minimum stay. One night is the standard. If the host wants more, the booking box shows "Minimum stay" and will not let you book fewer nights.

What time can I check in and check out?

Check-in is from 14:00 (2 in the afternoon) and check-out is by 11:00 in the morning, unless the host has set other times. The listing shows the times under the calendar.

Can I invite friends over during my staycation?

Only if the house rules allow it. The number of guests you book is everyone staying the night. House rules appear on your stay page once the booking is confirmed, so ask the host first with "Contact Agent" if visitors matter to you.

Can I cancel my staycation booking?

Yes, for free until the deadline the booking box shows before you pay. You then get a 100% refund of the booking. Paystack’s payment fee is not refunded. It reaches you within 14 days at most, and usually in about 5 days.
