What is Oregun like?
Oregun was laid out as an industrial estate, and it still looks like one on its main roads: factories, warehouses, logistics yards, car and furniture showrooms, company head offices, hotels and event centres. Over the years, offices have replaced some of the factories, and apartment blocks have gone up on the residential streets. Those streets hold blocks of two and three-bedroom flats, older detached houses, some now used as offices, and newer serviced and managed apartments aimed at professionals.
- Shopping and daily needs: Ikeja City Mall in Alausa is close, and supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and eateries are spread along Kudirat Abiola Way.
- The landfill: the Olusosun landfill lies on the Ojota side of Oregun. On the streets nearest to it, smoke and smell can be a nuisance at times. Ask residents before you take a flat at that end.
- Power and water: supply is better than in many mainland suburbs but not dependable, so most blocks run a generator or an inverter and rely on a borehole.

Much of what changes hands in Oregun is commercial: warehouses, industrial plots, office buildings and showrooms, bought by companies and by developers converting old industrial sites. Residential sales are mostly older houses on good plots, bought to rebuild as flats, and units in new apartment blocks. Values are driven by the closeness to Alausa, Ikorodu Road and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and they vary widely with the size of the plot and what it may be used for.

Getting around from Oregun
Kudirat Abiola Way does most of the work. At one end it reaches Ikorodu Road at Ojota, for the BRT, the motor parks, Maryland, Yaba and the route through Ogudu to the Third Mainland Bridge. At the other end it leads to Alausa, Obafemi Awolowo Way and central Ikeja. The roads through Alausa also lead out to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, for Berger and the way out of Lagos. Minibuses and tricycles run the length of the road, and ride-hailing is easy to find. The domestic and international airports are also in Ikeja.
Traffic builds at the Ojota end and at the Alausa junctions at opening and closing time, and a broken-down lorry can block the road. If you will commute to the Island, travel the route at your normal hour before signing.
