Shortlet extras are things your host sells you during your stay, such as bottled water, breakfast, snacks or an airport pick-up. On Cabans, you order them from your stay page once your host has completed your check-in. They are delivered to your stay free, and you pay for them online.
This guide explains what extras are, how to order and pay, how delivery works, and what to do when you want something that is not listed.
What stay extras are
Each host chooses what to sell, and some sell nothing at all. Hosts set up their extras with a photo, a name, a short description and a price. Things hosts can sell include:
- bottled water and soft drinks;
- breakfast or a meal;
- snacks;
- toiletries;
- wine;
- an airport pick-up.
Extras never appear in search or on the listing page. You only see them on your stay page, and only for the home you are staying in. So if an extra matters to you, such as breakfast every morning, ask the host before you book.
Some hosts also leave a welcome pack in the home. That is separate from extras. Check the listing, or ask the host what it includes.

How to order
The stay shop opens once your host completes your check-in, and closes when you leave. It is not there before you arrive, or while you only have the keys.
- Open “My Stays” from your account menu, and choose your stay.
- Find the card “Shop for your stay”. It says “Delivered to your stay, free. Pay for them in your basket.”
- Choose how many you want, then press “Add to basket”. Want more? Press “Add more”.
- Open your basket. Each extra says “Delivered to your stay”, and there is no address to type.
- Check out and pay.
When stock is low you may see a note such as “Only 3 left”, or “Sold out” when there is none. You can add up to 99 of one extra at a time. The price is worked out by Cabans, and some extras cost less each when you buy more.
Paying for extras
- You pay securely online through Paystack, in naira (₦).
- Paystack’s processing fee is added when you pay, and you see it before you pay. It is not refunded.
- Card payments start at ₦1,000 (one thousand naira). If your extras come to less, add more before you pay.
- Extras cannot share a basket with a stay that is still on hold. Pay for the stay first.
Your bill.Your host can also add extras you used to your bill, such as drinks from the fridge. They show on your stay page under “My bill”, marked “Added to your bill by your host”, with a button to pay. Once paid, a bill says “Paid” and has a receipt.
Your booking itself is not on the bill. You paid for that when you booked.
Step by step, with what each screen says, see how to order extras and pay your bill.
Delivery
Your host, or someone they send, brings extras to the home. Delivery is free. There is no set delivery time, so if you need something by a certain hour, such as breakfast at 08:00, message your host when you order.
Once you have left, extras still in your basket cannot be delivered. You will see “Your stay has ended, so this cannot be delivered”. Remove them before you check out anything else.
Airport pick-ups need planning. The stay shop only opens after check-in, so you cannot order a pick-up for your arrival there. Message your host before you travel to arrange one. If the host sells pick-ups as an extra, they can add it to your bill once you have the keys, and you pay from your stay page. A pick-up from the shop works best for your trip back to the airport.

Asking for something not listed
If you need something the shop does not show, ask. You have two ways:
- “Message your host” opens a chat with your host.
- “Stay services”on your stay page. Choose “Something else”, write what you need, and press “Send request”. Your host gets it by email.
Your host can only bill you for extras they have set up. If they agree to your request, they may add it as a new extra. You can then order it from the shop, or they add it to your bill.
For fresh towels, bed linen or a clean, use “Room service” or “Cleaner” under “Stay services” instead. See how to ask your host for help during your stay.
Extras for special trips
Extras can turn an ordinary stay into a special one. Ideas to ask your host about before you book:
- A birthday or anniversary: a cake, flowers or drinks waiting in the fridge.
- A work trip: an early breakfast, bottled water and a ride to your first meeting.
- A family stay: snacks, extra towels and a cot.
- A weekend with friends: soft drinks and snacks for the evening, within the house rules.
Not every host can do all of these. Ask what they offer, and how much it costs, before you pay for the stay.
If something goes wrong with an order
If an extra has not arrived, or it is not what you ordered, tell your host first. Use “Message your host”, or send a request with “Report an issue” under “Stay services”, so there is a record on your stay page.
If you paid for a bill twice by mistake, the page says so, our team is told, and the extra payment is refunded. Refunds reach you within 14 days at most, and usually in about 5 days. If you cannot sort out a problem with your host, contact our team.
Tips for ordering extras
- Ask before you book if an extra matters to you, such as breakfast, a pick-up or bottled water.
- Order water early. Order it on your first day, so you are not waiting when you need it.
- Say what you need. For food, message your host about allergies or what you do not eat.
- Keep your receipts. Paid bills keep a receipt on your stay page.
- Pay as you go. Clear your bill during the stay, so nothing is left when you leave.
- Group small orders. Card payments start at ₦1,000, so add a few things together rather than one small item at a time.
- Check the stock note. If an extra says “Only 3 left”, order early or ask your host when more is coming.
On a long stay, ask your host whether they can bring regular orders, such as water every few days, so you do not have to remember.
