Island or Mainland for December?
There is no single best area. Pick the one closest to where you will spend most of your evenings, because December traffic in Lagos can be heavy and a short distance can take a long time.
The Island: Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki
Many December visitors want to be near the restaurants, beaches and venues on this side. Lekki is long, so check which part of it a home is in before you book.
The Mainland: Ikeja, Surulere, Yaba
A good base if your family lives there, or if you fly in and out through Lagos airport in Ikeja and want to be close to it. You can still go to the Island for nights out.
Why booking early matters: the 30-day rule
Every shortlet you can book on Cabans has a free-cancellation cut-off chosen by the host, from 24 hours to 30 days before check-in. A cut-off longer than 15 days only applies in full if you book more than 30 days before check-in. Book later than that and the cut-off shrinks to 15 days. Book inside the cut-off and you cannot cancel at all.

December prices
Hosts on Cabans can set a special price for a single night and a price for a run of dates. So a home that costs one price in November may cost more around Christmas and New Year. You never have to guess: each free night shows its price on the calendar, and the green "Price Breakdown" card adds up your whole stay before you pay.

What to check before you pay
The cancellation deadline
Choose your dates and the booking box shows it, for example "Free cancellation until Tue 6 Oct 2026, 14:00 WAT". If it says "No free cancellation", you cannot cancel once booked.
The caution deposit
Shown as "Caution deposit: ₦X, refundable". It is paid with the booking and comes back after you leave, unless our team agrees the host may keep some for damage.
The guest limit
Under "Guests" you see "Up to 4 guests" or similar. The booking box will not let you pick more, so count everyone staying, children included.
Check-in and check-out times
Shown as "Check-in: from 14:00" and "Check-out: by 11:00" unless the host has set other times. Plan flights and late nights around them.
The minimum stay
If the host needs more than one night, the booking box shows "Minimum stay". A 1-night booking will not go through below it.

Coming home from abroad
- You pay securely online through Paystack, always in naira.
- Paystack charges a fee for handling the payment. You pay it on top of the stay, and you see it before you pay.
- Before you travel, ask your bank whether your card can make online payments in naira.
- Your door code and Wi-Fi password appear on your stay page after the host completes your check-in. They are never emailed, so keep your phone charged for arrival day.

Where should I stay in Lagos for Detty December?
Stay close to where you will spend most evenings, because December traffic in Lagos can be heavy. Many visitors pick the Island (Victoria Island, Ikoyi or Lekki). Others pick the Mainland (Ikeja, Surulere or Yaba) to be near family or the airport.
How early should I book a shortlet for December?
As early as your plans allow. Calendars open a year ahead as standard, and booking more than 30 days before check-in means a long free-cancellation cut-off applies in full. Late bookings can land inside the cut-off and then cannot be cancelled.
Can I cancel a December shortlet booking?
Yes, for free until the deadline the booking box shows. You then get a 100% refund of the booking, caution deposit included. Paystack’s payment fee is not refunded. It reaches you within 14 days at most, and usually in about 5 days. After the deadline, or if you booked inside it, the booking cannot be cancelled.
Why do December nights cost more on some shortlets?
Hosts can set a special price for any night, or a price for a run of dates. The calendar shows each free night's price, and says "Night prices vary by date" when they differ, so you see December prices before you reserve.
Can I book from abroad?
Yes, the booking works the same from anywhere. You pay online through Paystack, always in naira. Before you travel, check with your bank that your card can make online payments in naira.
Can I throw a party in a December shortlet?
Only if the host agrees. House rules appear on your stay page once the booking is confirmed, so ask the host first with "Contact Agent" on the listing page.
What if I leave before my last night?
The nights you do not use are not refunded, unless the host agrees to refund them. So book the nights you are sure of. Once you are checked in, you can ask to add nights if the host agrees and the dates are free.
